When someone suffers a stroke, traumatic brain injury or brain tumor, one of the common symptoms is aphasia, a disorder that arises from damage to portions of the brain, usually the left side, that are responsible for language. It impairs the expression and understanding of language, as well as reading and writing.
Researchers in Professor Philip Bos’ laboratory at þҹӰԺѹۿ's Liquid Crystal Institute® and the Lincoln Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently published the results of their collaborative development of advanced liquid crystal devices that can steer a beam of laser light without physical motion.
Kiersten F. Latham, Ph.D., associate professor in þҹӰԺѹۿ’s School of Information (iSchool), has received a Fulbright Scholar Award to teach at the University of Zadar in Croatia for the Fall 2017 Semester. She will teach a course she created, Current Issues in Document/ation Studies, guest lecture in other courses, participate in several conferences and advise students.
Did you know the Campus Kitchen at þҹӰԺѹۿ State prepares an average of 350 meals each week for individuals facing food insecurity in our local community? In the past year, more than 3,000 individuals assisted with meal prep and food delivery programs at the Campus Kitchen at þҹӰԺѹۿ State.
On July 1, the þҹӰԺѹۿ School of Digital Sciences became the fifth school in the College of Communication and Information, making it the only college in the nation to combine a mix of digital sciences, visual communication design, journalism and mass communication, information sciences and communication studies in its curriculum.
Online final grading for summer 2017 First 7 Weeks (W1) began Thursday, June 29, via FlashFAST. Grading also is now available for any summer 2017 course section that was flexibly scheduled. The deadline for grading submission is midnight on Wednesday, July 5. Any final grades for summer 2017 courses not reported in FlashFAST by the grades processing deadline will have to be submitted using the Grade Change Workflow. These summer 2017 courses will be available in the Workflow on Friday, July 7.
