Flash Focus: Jordan Caraway

This biochemistry major is passionate about her lab research, education and 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 State experience

Meet Jordan Caraway, a senior biochemistry major from New Lenox, Illinois, whose passion for chemistry has shaped her 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 State experience and future goals. A dedicated student, Caraway balances her time between two research labs, a job as a Resident Assistant and a shift at a local coffee shop. And when she鈥檚 not working or studying, you鈥檒l likely find her at the gym or spending time with friends.

Caraway鈥檚 love for chemistry sparked early in her 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 experience, particularly stemming from introductory chemistry classes taught by Ruth Leslie, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

鈥淒r. Leslie has not only taught me chemistry, but also how to be a better learner and leader,鈥 Caraway told 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 State Today. 鈥淪he鈥檚 always pushing herself to improve her teaching, and that鈥檚 something I really admire and want to carry with me into graduate school.鈥

Caraway is currently conducting undergraduate research on bioinorganic chemistry with Yaorong Zheng, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She has also researched organic chemistry with Professor Emeritus Robert J. Twieg, Ph.D.

These hands-on experiences not only solidified her passion for chemistry but also helped her decide on a career in academic research.

鈥淚 used to think medical school was the best way to do meaningful research,鈥 Caraway said. 鈥淏ut once I joined the labs, I realized how much I love academic research. I truly fell in love with the process, the questions and the discoveries.鈥

Before stepping into her research roles, Caraway served as a campus tour guide, which helped her develop confidence and communication skills. These traits now serve her well when presenting her research at the Ohio Inorganic Chemistry Conference and during 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 State鈥檚 Honors Week.

Outside of academics, Caraway has also gained professional lab experience through a summer job in 2022 at Blue Stone Specialty Chemicals where she worked in an inorganic chemistry lab.

鈥淩esearch has taught me how to problem-solve, be patient and handle failure, which is something you don鈥檛 always learn in a classroom,鈥 Caraway said.

Even with a packed schedule, Jordan is passionate and mindful in all that she does.

鈥淲hether I鈥檓 helping residents, working in the lab or making someone鈥檚 coffee, I鈥檓 always learning and growing,鈥 Caraway said. 鈥淓very role I鈥檝e had has taught me something valuable.鈥

With a clear vision for the future, Caraway appreciates the support 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 State has given her throughout the years.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 always know what I wanted to do after graduation, but my time at 久久午夜羞羞影院免费观看 State helped me figure it out,鈥 she said. 鈥淣ow, I鈥檓 more confident in my path than ever.鈥
