University leaders recently shared updates about academics and enrollment during a session on Facebook Live.

When the Ohio Department of Health sought help this summer for work on the COVID-19 pandemic response, more than 110 students from �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ�’s College of Public Health raised their hands to volunteer.

The �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� Police Department is scheduled for a virtual assessment as part of a program to achieve international reaccreditation. Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA), the program requires agencies to meet state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

The jersey �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� State’s Kalin Bennett wore in his first game is now on display at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. 

There will be free COVID-19 testing this week open to all at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown.

During his 34 year tenure at �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ�, professor Lawrence Marks, Ph.D., has been at the forefront of developing online classes, which have become an indispensable part of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

�þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� Associate Professor Elizabeth M. Smith-Pryor has authored a perspective piece on racial equality that is featured in the July 15 Washington Post column, “Made by History.”

�þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ�’s Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., and Taléa R. Drummer-Ferrell, Ph.D., recently entered the annals of university history. On May 1, 2020, Hylton became the first Black person in the university’s history to hold the title of vice president for student affairs. And on July 1, 2020, Drummer-Ferrell was appointed dean of students, making her the first Black woman to be named to the position. 

�þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� introduced a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience in fall 2019, and since the launch, the major has had tremendous growth. Enrollment is projected to surpass majors that have been at �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� State for years.

We are here to help. That was one of the main messages international students at �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� heard during a held July 9 to help answer questions and share the university’s response to a recent announcement by the federal government regarding Fall 2020 international student enrollment requirements.

The �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� at Ashtabula Respiratory Therapy program is among elite company as it was recently awarded the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success Award by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) for the third straight year.

Curbside Pickup is �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� Libraries’ new contactless service that allows users to check out materials from its collection while libraries on the �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� and Regional campuses remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Campus Kitchen at �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ�, a student-run organization that reclaims food to feed the needy in the �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� area, has had to swiftly switch gears from operating a hot food kitchen to an expanded food pantry.

Eric Mansfield examines what it means to be an ally in the fight against racism. Mansfield is executive director of university media relations in �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� State's University Communications and Marketing department and an adjunct public relations instructor with the College of Communication and Information.

When �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March, not all students living on the �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� Campus were able to leave. 

A team of �þ���ҹ����ӰԺ��ѹۿ� State students took home the Outstanding Science Award from the Biodesign Challenge Summit 2020 held in June.
